In a global context marked by challenges such as climate change, energy crises, pandemics, and armed conflicts, sustainable development has become an urgent imperative for every nation. According to the World Bank, to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the world needs resources of USD 3.3–4.5 trillion per year, while the financing gap will still amount to USD 2.5 trillion by 2025.
In Vietnam, the Sustainable Development Index for 2025 reaches 73.35 points, ranking 61st out of 167 countries. Notable positive indicators include: the poverty rate decreased to 4.06% (2024); disbursed FDI in 2024 reached USD 25.35 billion, up 9.4% compared with 2023; in the first seven months of 2025, realized FDI reached USD 13.6 billion—the highest level in five years. The Government has promulgated a set of sustainable development statistical indicators (145 indicators reflecting the 17 SDGs), the National Strategy on Green Growth 2021–2030 with a vision to 2050, and, at COP26, committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050—demonstrating a strong resolve to shift the growth model toward a green, sustainable, and circular economy.
Against this backdrop, the Institute of International Finance Education (IIFE) – Academy of Finance organized a Student Research Conference themed “Sustainable Economic Development in the New Context: Connecting Knowledge – Shaping the Future” on the afternoon of August 19, 2025. The event aimed to create a forum for students not only to update global trends and challenges but also to learn how to apply academic knowledge to solving real-world problems.
The conference attracted nearly 50 research papers from students of the Academy of Finance, DDP students of IIFE, and many other universities such as the University of Commerce, Banking Academy, and Hanoi Law University. Of these, 44 high-quality papers were published in the scientific proceedings, focusing on three highly applied thematic groups:
(1) Green and sustainable economic development and energy transition, proposing solutions for resource management, emissions reduction, promotion of renewable energy, and the circular economy;
(2) Digital transformation, innovation, and entrepreneurship in the new context, analyzing the impact of digital technologies on business models, the startup ecosystem, and national competitiveness;
(3) Sustainable Finance–Accounting and corporate governance, studying green financial instruments, sustainable accounting standards, and governance strategies oriented toward long-term value.
The conference was honored by the participation of Ms. Lương Thị Thu Giang—Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, SXC Corp, an entrepreneur with more than 20 years’ experience providing technology solutions and industrial chemicals to global corporations. With extensive experience at multinational companies such as Coca-Cola and Unilever, and a track record of leading international projects on ESG strategy, digital transformation, and the circular economy, Ms. Thu Giang brought students practical, incisive, and inspiring perspectives on sustainable economic development in the new context.
With the theme “Connecting Knowledge – Shaping the Future,” the conference not only helped students consolidate theoretical foundations but also served as a “bridge” bringing knowledge into socio-economic life—awakening a sense of responsibility, innovative thinking, and adaptability: key factors enabling the younger generation to contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
