Each elective subject in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam will have 48 versions of the test paper, double that of Literature and Mathematics.
This information was shared by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director General of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training, late last week.
The 2025 High School Graduation Exam under the new (2018) curriculum will take place with four subjects. Among these, Literature and Mathematics are compulsory, scheduled for the morning and afternoon of June 26, respectively. On the morning of June 27, students will take two elective subjects, selected from those they have studied at school (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Economic and Legal Education, Informatics, Technology, and Foreign Languages).
Mr. Ha stated that many localities are worried because the exam takes place over only three sessions (one session fewer than previous years), including one session with both elective subjects.
The Ministry plans to seat candidates in a fixed room throughout the exam, even if their elective subjects differ. Therefore, a single elective subject may be tested in two separate time slots. For example, Room 1 has students choosing Physics, tested in Slot 1 (from 7:35 AM to 8:25 AM). Room 2 also has students taking Physics, but in Slot 2 (8:40 AM – 9:30 AM).
To ensure exam security, each elective subject will have 48 versions of the test paper, equally divided between the two time slots. The test papers and students’ answer sheets will also be collected by room rather than by subject as before, to save time and facilitate easier management.
“In general, even though we are optimizing the seating arrangement, the Ministry will still limit placing too many students taking different subjects in one room,” Mr. Ha said.

Speaking further about the exam papers, Mr. Ha noted that they will align with the new curriculum, primarily covering Grade 12 content. Of the questions, 40% will be at the “knowledge” level, 30% at the “comprehension” level, and 30% at the “application” level. In the application section, the “general principle” is to use unfamiliar contexts, not readily found in textbooks.
The results of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam will be announced on July 16.
