At the request of the Academy of Finance and the University of Greenwich (United Kingdom) stated in the application for the extension of the Joint Master’s Degree Programme in Finance and Investment—originally approved by the Minister of Education and Training in Decision No. 5122/QĐ-BGDĐT dated November 4, 2013—and upon the recommendation of the Director General of the Higher Education Department, on July 3, 2020, the Minister of Education and Training issued Decision No. 1848/QĐ-BGDĐT, officially approving the Joint Master’s Degree Programme in Finance and Investment between the Academy of Finance (International Training Institute), Vietnam, and the University of Greenwich, United Kingdom. This decision takes effect from the date of signing.
The key provisions of the Decision authorizing the two universities to continue their joint postgraduate training in Finance and Investment are as follows:
1. Admission Requirements:
a) A recognized undergraduate degree. Priority is given to applicants holding degrees in economics and accounting-related fields (e.g., finance, economics, accounting, auditing, management, business, commerce, banking, insurance). Applicants with undergraduate degrees in other fields must take supplementary courses as required by the Academy of Finance.
b) English proficiency at Level 4 of the Vietnamese 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework or equivalent, and must meet the specific admission requirements of the joint programme.
2. Duration and Programme Structure:
a) Duration of study: 12 months (excluding the time for research and dissertation writing).
b) The programme, provided by the University of Greenwich (UK), consists of 180 UK credits, equivalent to 90 ECTS credits.
3. Language of Instruction: English.
4. Teaching Staff:
Lecturers from the Academy of Finance or other Vietnamese universities, as well as faculty members from the University of Greenwich (UK), must possess professional qualifications and English proficiency that meet the requirements of the joint training programme and the current regulations of both Vietnam and the United Kingdom.
5. Training Scale: 60 students per year, with a maximum of two intakes per year.
6. Training Location: Academy of Finance (Institute of International Financial Education), No. 23, Hang Chao Alley, Cat Linh Ward, Dong Da District, Hanoi.
7. Degree Awarded: Master of Science in Finance and Investment, awarded by the University of Greenwich (United Kingdom).
8. Tuition Fees and Financial Management: Tuition fees are paid by the students in accordance with the regulations set by both partner institutions. Financial management is carried out in compliance with the current laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
The duration of operation of the joint training programme is five years from the effective date of this Decision.
The Academy of Finance (Institute of International Financial Education) and the University of Greenwich are responsible for complying with Vietnamese law, as well as the commitments, admissions plans, and training management as presented in the application for the extension of the Joint Master’s Degree Programme in Finance and Investment approved by the Ministry of Education and Training under Decision No. 5122/QĐ-BGDĐT dated November 4, 2013, and this current Decision.
Programme Framework
The Master’s Programme in Finance and Investment (MSc in Finance and Investment) consists of two stages, totaling 180 QCF credits under the UK qualifications framework, equivalent to 90 ECTS credits.
In Stage 1, students study three 30-credit modules and four 15-credit modules (totaling 150 credits). In Stage 2, students conduct research and write a Research Project (30 credits).
